COVID-19 Updates

January Testing & Vaccine Information

January 3, 2022

Dear Campus Community,

I hope everyone had a safe and healthy holiday. As we prepare to return to campus following the holidays and with the rising COVID-19 cases of the Omicron variant, I’m confident that we’ll be vigilant in following all recommended health protocols. When rates of COVID are high in our communities, the possibility of more cases on campus and in other settings is higher. However, by maintaining effective health protocols, data shows that these multiple layers of defense can help stop the spread.

Based on science, our best defense against the virus is testing and the vaccines.

Testing

Our COVID-19 Testing Center will reopen on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, in a new location at the Student Recreation Center (east gymnasium).

As a reminder, COVID-19 tests are available to all current students, faculty and staff, at no cost. Students who are enrolled in Spring 2022 classes are eligible for weekly surveillance testing prior to the start of the semester. Students and employees who have attested to an exemption or who have not completed their COVID-19 self-certification form are required to participate in mandatory weekly testing.

During Winter Break (Jan. 3 - Jan. 14, 2022), the Testing Center will be open on the following days:

  • Monday  8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday  8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Thursday  8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The Testing Center will be closed Monday, Jan. 17, for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and will resume the spring 2022 schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at the Student Recreation Center Gym (Note: hours during the week of Jan. 18 may be extended in an effort to ensure that all of our students, faculty and staff have the opportunity to get tested prior to returning to campus and in-person classes):

  • Monday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Thursday 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Friday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Saturday 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Students may also test at the Student Health and Counseling Center at no cost. Please check their website for hours of operation and to schedule an appointment. We will also be distributing home test kits (at no cost) for students, faculty, and staff after the beginning of the semester as another resource for early mitigation and defense.

Vaccine Clinics

With support from our partners at UCSF Fresno, we have scheduled additional walk-in clinic dates for COVID-19 vaccinations that are available to all employees and students, at no cost.

COVID-19 booster shots (Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson) will be available for employees and students over 18 years of age and who are six (6) months past their full vaccination status. If you have not yet received your COVID-19 vaccine, you can get your first dose at one of these clinics, and then arrange to get your second dose at the UCSF Fresno location.

The clinics will be offered on the following days and times in North Gym 118:

  • Tuesday, Jan. 4  Hours: noon - 2 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Jan. 11  Hours: 7 a.m. - 11 a.m.
  • Tuesday, Jan. 25  Hours: 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, Jan. 27  Hours: 7 a.m. - 10 a.m.

Please complete this quick survey to communicate which date you plan to attend. This will help our team prepare to meet required staffing levels.

As a reminder, please stay home if you are sick or not feeling well regardless of your vaccination status. If you test positive, please fill out the online form immediately. Please continue to follow campus public health protocols by completing the Daily Health Screening questions before coming to campus, wear a well-fitted face mask/facial covering while indoors and in crowded areas outdoors, and strongly consider getting the booster if you are vaccinated.

Kind regards,

Debbie Adishian-Astone
